First step in the tournament this year will be to vote for bands or artists that should have made the bracket but have not. Those bands will take the play-in spots and then the tournament can begin.
There will be two play-ins per era, which are (1) the 50s and 60s, (2) The 70s and 80s, (3) the 90s, and (4) 2000 and on.

My votes for play-in bands:
50s and 60s: Elton John; Grateful Dead
70s and 80s: [not sure yet]
90s: Nine Inch Nails; Soundgarden
2000 on: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club; At the Drive In.
My Vote for play in bands
50's and 60's: Warren Zevon and The Greatful Dead. Also I am aware that Elton John is a better pick but I couldn't not pick Zevon.
70's and 80's: Billy Joel and The Cars
90's: Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blink 182
2000: The National and Built to Spill
Also Taylor Soundgarden is on the bracket already as #15 for 90's.
Apparently I'm unclear what's on there even though I made it. I also didn't realize that Built to Spill wasn't on there. I vote for them instead.
Play Ins:
50s-60s:
James Brown (Hit me!)
Jefferson Airplane (White Rabbit)
70s-80s:
Chicago (...baby please don't go)
Black Sabbath
90s:
Sublime
Built to Spill (I put them in the 90s)
2000s:
At The Drive-In
Blink-182 (they stradle the years, with their)
i change my 70s & 80s:
chicago
hall & oates
Private Eyes! They're watching you, they see your every move!
Hall and Oates is a great call
she's gone...that's the best one
and on another note...looks like this is going to be a 3 man vote
I'm thinking that we also need the smiths (80s), new order/joy division (80s), iggy and the stooges (70s), velvet underground (70s), the kinks (60s) [I can't believe this did not make the first list], Sufjan Stevens (00s), the band (60s), Beck (90s or 00s), Massive Attack (90s), Stevie Wonder (70s), M. Ward (00s), Pavement (90s), . I second Elton John and Billy Joel. Chili Peppers are a good idea, but what about Primus for sheer originality? As to the pre-picks: Cake...Seriously? Why STP when one has Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden? How about Sonic Youth or the Flaming Lips instead? I think we're also missing out on hip hop, like Jay-Z or Nas.
Oh, and Black Sabbath (70s), cream (60s), and the Talking Heads (80s).
Cavan,
Beck is already on there. You can vote for some hip hop; we're working on getting some more involvement before we move to the next round. Drum up some support. Leslie hasn't voted yet.
Here are my updated votes (two per era):
50s 60s:
Elton John
Grateful Dead
70s 80s:
Sonic Youth (they formed in the 70s and Daydream Nation came out in the 80s)
Black Sabbath (I'll join with Cavan and Ethan on this one)
90s:
Built to Spill (Brian, they should be in the 90s)
Nine Inch Nails (I would vote for Pavement if I thought they had any chance of advancing even one round.)
00s on:
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
At the Drive-In
Okay. Here are my current votes:
50/60s: the kinks and velvet underground
70/80s: sabbath and joy division/new order
90s: massive attack and flaming lips
00s: sufjan stevens and the national
