The Championship Round is finally here.
Answer these four questions in the comments:
1. Who you vote for to win the championship match-up.
2. Who do you consider to be the best band ever, i.e. who should have won?
3. What one band should have made the bracket, but didn't?
4. What one band should NOT have made the bracket, but did?
Your answers to these questions will be taken into consideration next March when The Money Beets hold the second annual "Best. Band. Ever." Bracket with updated seedings and possibly new bands from the 2000s era.
VOTING DEADLINE; FRIDAY, MAY 1ST, MIDNIGHT.
21 comments:
1. Bob Dylan
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Johnny Cash (oops)
4. Madonna
Note also that the follow-up questions are NOT an invitation to just dog on how I put the bracket together. I understand--as everyone should--that the bracket and seedings were inevitably biased by my knowledge and musical preferences. Prime example: I thought Sigur Ros would absolutely destroy Green Day.
Besides seeding things a little differently, and including Johnny Cash and the Killers, I would move Radiohead into the 90s bracket per Ethan's suggestion (likely in the number 2 seed behind Nirvana), and I would not include Wolf Parade, The Ramones, Elton John (losing spot to Johnny Cash), Band of Horses, or the Red Hot Chili Peppers (losing spot to Soundgarden).
1. Nirvana
2. Pinback
3. Cake
4. TV on the Radio
1. Nirvana
2. The Beatles
3. The Decemberists
4. Death Cab for Cutie
I think every March 1 The Money Beets should sit down and put together the bracket. Because I fully believe although they got crushed. The Chili Peppers deserve to still be on the list. Not a huge issue I just believe our 3 minds can create bracket beauty when combined.
Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan....
Bob Dylan (If not Bob, then the Beatles... though it kills me to say that)
Johnny Cash (Taylor ruined everything)
Wolf Parade.... something Fur (Who? And no one voted for them in the first round)
You don't have to like TV on the Radio but it's quite a stretch to say that they shouldn't even make the bracket. I googled it to make sure I'm not just off on my own with liking this band (not that there is anything wrong with that). Nonetheless, I'm not.
1st album: Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes won the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize.
2nd album: Return to Cookie Mountain named Spin Magazine Album of the Year for 2006.
3rd album: Dear Science named best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Spin Magazine, The Onion AV Club, MTV, Entertainment Weekly, the Pitchfork Media's readers poll, and Pazz and Jop critic's poll.
Winning awards doesn't make a band great (I do like and often agree with Spin magazine and the Onion AV Club; and at the very least the Rolling Stone is still marginally relevant), but the point is that they deserve to be on the bracket even though their music doesn't fit inside your little box of what you think music should sound like.
Brian,
I agree about Decemberists and Death Cab.
1. Nirvana
2. I have no idea. Which makes me think that I probably shouldn't have been voting in this bracket at all.
3. The Killers and No Doubt (90s bracket)
4. I love Handsome Furs but agree that they are too young to compete at this level. But seriously, they are awesome. You should give them a try.
So far Carrie is the big winner since she claims that she thinks Bob Dylan should win the whole thing. Nobody else's choice even made it to the final four.
Will I get a trophy if Bob wins?
1. Nirvana
2. In truth, I don't think there is one.
3. 2pac
4. wolf parade
Taylor,
I just came up with your next great "Taylor and Leslie agree blog" post.
You guys can agree that TV on the Radio is good. Then you can type unnecessary profanity. Then you can type warmest regards.
It's so new and fresh, I love it.
Warmest Regards
Done and done.
1. Nirvana
2. Pearl Jam
3. Lagwagon
4. Sigor Gros
no dogwood either?!
1. Nirvana

VOTING DEADLINE: FRIDAY AT MIDNIGHT.
Beth Glazener: I should have voted on Taylor's band thing... he couldn't even get some of the eras correct... shameful.
Another Glazener missing the point...
that's a fact, not a point.
Haha. Yes, but you're still missing the point of this bracket.
oooo!!!! oooooooh!! oooh!!!!
Taylor!!! I know the point of this bracket.
It was to have fun.
I'll take debby downers for $500, thank you.
Ding ding ding ding ding! Correct! Carrie wins!!!
